About me
My name is J. Rickard Wagner, and I run JRW Marine AB, where I provide comprehensive technical services for the marine and offshore industries.
My career is built on hands-on experience, deep technical competence, and the ability to drive complex projects from start to finish – whether it involves newbuildings, operations, class compliance, yard periods, or strategic improvement programs.
I began my career at sea and worked my way up to Chief Engineer before transitioning into shore-based roles. Over the years, I have held key positions such as Class Surveyor (ABS), Technical Superintendent, Site Superintendent, Maintenance Manager, Fleet Manager, Project Manager, and Vessel Manager. This has given me a unique range of expertise: I possess both the practical understanding gained in the engine room and the strategic perspective required for fleet-level decisions and cost control.
I have worked globally on projects across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and South America. My experience includes vessel and rig newbuildings, shipyard periods, DP systems, Condition Based Monitoring, major overhauls, acceptance and takeover of newbuildings, class renewals, Annual Surveys, various notations, UWILD, Special Surveys, FAT, SMS development, rig reactivations, and major technical repairs – including crankshaft failures, engine replacements, and complete thruster overhauls. I also have a proven track record of reducing costs through process improvements, procurement strategies, OEM agreements, and digitalized maintenance systems.
As a consultant, I work with a broad range of clients: shipowners, management companies, offshore companies, training centers, shipyards, and classification societies. I offer everything from project management and technical advisory services to inspections, training materials, pre-purchase inspections, SMS development, maintenance strategies, and support in operational and class-related matters.
My strength lies in combining practical experience with structure, clarity, and a holistic approach. I am accustomed to handling time pressure, complex projects, and international environments – and delivering solutions that are both technically sound and economically sustainable.
